PRACTICE : 'SILENT WITNESS'
Drawings + Paintings
In painting, pentimento (regret, penitent), is a term for the curious phenomenon of earlier stages of a painting showing through with the passage of time. I paint from memory, intentionally using elements of pentimento to inform the work.
These works rely on chance and accident. When I begin, the only sure plan I have is that nothing goes to plan. Preliminary drawings are only badly drawn maps.
Secret agents, spies and imposters are the protagonists around whom an open ended story is told in fragments of narrative. These figures exist outside any system, place or time, in a no-mans land between reality and unreality.
